I Can’t

The last few days I have been reading about all the intricate details that were involved in building the Tent of Meeting which the Israelites used as their place of worship while traveling through the wilderness.

God had given Moses a specific blueprint for the project and his people were to follow every detailed instruction. Now these were men who had spent half a lifetime making bricks for Egypt’s Pharoah. They weren’t skilled in spinning fine linen, dying animals skins with purple, scarlet and blues.

What did they know about goldmithing? Hammering gold thin enough to be used for thread or sculpting it into intricate shapes of pomegrantes and bells, cheribum, candleholders and rings. Overlaying acacia wood with gold. They also needed to be experts in silversmithing and the casting of bronze.

When you’re given a task this emense, do you throw up your hands and say I can’t?

“The Lord has gifted Bezalel, Oholiab, and the other skilled craftsmen with wisdom and ability to perform any task involved in building the sanctuary. Let them construct and furnish the Tabernacle, just as the Lord has commanded.”

2 So Moses summoned Bezalel and Oholiab and all the others who were specially gifted by the Lord and were eager to get to work. 3 Moses gave them the materials donated by the people of Israel as sacred offerings for the completion of the sanctuary. But the people continued to bring additional gifts each morning.” Exodus 36:1-3 NLT

These men knew they had been gifted by God. They simply followed His instructions and when they were finished the Bible says “The Israelites did all this work exactly as the Lord had commanded Moses. 43 Moses looked closely at all the work and saw that it was done exactly as the Lord had commanded. So Moses blessed them.” Exodus 39:42-43 ERV

What has the Lord called you to do? Do you face a task that you feel is just to big for you? Should someone else who is more qualified being doing it?

I can’t.

No one can be the kind of parent to your children that you can! God has lovingly placed them in your care. No one else will be able to touch the lives of your co-workers like you will. No one else can be the friend that you are. Will there be challenges? Surely. Will there be mistakes? Almost certainly. Then why go on?

Why not say “I can’t”?

God has a purpose and plan for your life. He has a design for you to fulfill. There was only one David who faced Goliath, only one Daniel who faced the lion’s den, only one Peter who stood up and preached on the day of Pentecost and there’s only one you!

However, you’ve never been asked to fulfill your destiny alone.

“Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do.” Philippians 4:13 ERV

With Christ we can do all things. I encourage you to expand upon our original statement. With Christ, I can’t fail!

Do All Things

Dave and I subscribed to several full time rving YouTube channels. We travel vicariously through their adventures and we also have created a list of the sites we would most like to see in our 5th wheel. It’s so refreshing to see the beauty that God has created.

One of the channels is relatively new, Switch It Up. This couple has a real place in our hearts. Not only do they travel to some interesting places but they are open in sharing about their faith and trust in the Lord.

During each segment there will be a time when they said this: Do all the things. They mean Like, Subscribe, Share. In fact, they have a t-shirt with that slogan on it and I purchased one.

That phrase has a double meaning to me. There are a number of verses in the Bible that tell us to do all. I want to be a doer of all the things that the Lord has asked us to do. I’ll share some of those verses with you.

“So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God” I Corinthians 10:31 NLT

“Be glad you can do the things you should be doing. Do all things without arguing and talking about how you wish you did not have to do them.” Philippians 2:14 NLV

“I can do all things because Christ gives me the strength.” Philippians 4:13 NLV

“Whatever you do, whether in speech or action, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus and give thanks to God the Father through him.” Colossians 3:17 CEB

There you have it. Be a doer of all things!

God has called us to be a light to the world. In our case that involves RVing. Wherever God calls you, wherever He leads you He will equip you to do all things for His glory!

Making the Bitter Sweet

The last two days I have shared some of the struggles the Israelites encountered as they left Egypt and ventured into the wilderness. There is so much we can learn from their story.

These were a people who had been in slavery and hard labor for a good four hundred years. The Lord had made a promise that He would bring them into their own land hundreds of years before. They had let their hope die.

Then Moses comes on the scene and says the Lord sent me to lead you out. Their basic comment was “don’t stir things up Moses”. But Moses obeyed the Lord and went to pharoah and asked him to let the people go out from Egypt three days journey to offer sacrifices and worship the Lord.

You know the story. Pharoah had a hardened heart to anything that had to do with the Lord and he refused. The plagues came – flies, locusts, frogs, water turning to blood, hail, thick darkness, boils, dead livestock and finally death.

Deliverance came.

They marched out of Egypt, only to be pursued by pharoah’s army. The Israelites complained, “you brought us out here to be killed, we should turn back”. The Lord brought them safely through the Red Sea and destroyed the Egyptian army.

Then came the party.

Singing, dancing, praising God for being so great and wonderful. These were a fickled people – faith filled one moment and faithless the next.

“Then she sang to them: “Sing praises to the Lord for his great victory! He has thrown the horses and their riders into the sea.”

22 After the Israelites left the Red Sea, Moses led them through the Shur Desert for three days, before finding water. 23 They did find water at Marah, but it was bitter, which is how that place got its name. 24 The people complained and said, “Moses, what are we going to drink?” 25 Moses asked the Lord for help, and the Lord told him to throw a piece of wood into the water. Moses did so, and the water became fit to drink. At Marah the Lord tested his people and also gave them some laws and teachings. ” Exodus 15:21-25 CEV

From singing and dancing to murmuring and complaining. How quickly they turned.

Let’s not be to harsh on them. We’ve done this too. God answers our prayers and we sing His praises and then the next hardship comes and we begin to ask “Lord, where are you?”.

Let’s learn from them and what the Lord did. The Lord loved these people. He had no evil intent toward them. He brought them out of Egypt to save them, not destroy them. Natural circumstances gave them bitter water, the Lord made it sweet.

Sounds like the old expression “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade”. Our Father is good, kind and loving. The Lord loves us too. Why is it so hard for us to trust Him?

“Yes, it is God who is working in you. He helps you want to do what pleases him, and he gives you the power to do it. 14 Do everything without complaining or arguing” Philippians 2:13-14 ERV

Are you in life’s desert right now? Do circumstances look bleek and bitter? Refrain from complaining and trust the Father.

He will make the bitter sweet.

Just Around the Corner

I think all of us have had a time when we have wanted to know “what’s just around the corner”.

Is it that great job I’ve been waiting or hoping for? Will I meet my future mate? Am I going to be kept from harm? Will I make it through the COVID threat unharmed? How will life turn out?

It’s all Just Around the Corner.

Those are not uncommon questions. People have been asking them for milleninia. We would all like to have “pro vision”.

When we place our trust in the Father, He sees ahead and will direct our steps. He knows the beginning from the end and all the road in between. He has big plans for us, plans for our good.

Abraham had a promise from God that he would have a son. Twenty-five years past before that promise became a reality but Abraham never lost hope. Remember, God is THE promise keeper.

When that son, Isaac, was probably in his teens his father took him on a three-day journey. They went with a couple of servants, a donkey, some wood and the two of them. A father/son outing. They got to a certain place and Abraham told the servants to wait there. He and Isaac went on ahead.

Abraham put the wood on Isaac’s shoulders and off they went. They were on their way to worship the Lord.

“Isaac said, “Father, we have the coals and the wood, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice?” “My son,” Abraham answered, “God will provide the lamb.” The two of them walked on” Genesis 22:7-8 CEV

It looks like this is the end for Isaac but just around the corner…

“Don’t hurt the boy or harm him in any way!” the angel said. “Now I know that you truly obey God, because you were willing to offer him your only son.”

13 Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in the bushes. So he took the ram and sacrificed it in place of his son. 14 Abraham named that place “The Lord Will Provide.” And even now people say, “On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided.” Genesis 22:12-14 CEV

The Lord will provide! He is faithful to keep His promises and fulfill the plans He has for us!

Maybe you are at a place where you are saying “when, Lord, when – how, Lord, how”. Be encouraged. God will provide

“My God will use his glorious riches to give you everything you need. He will do this through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 CEV

For Abraham God provided a son and then a ram. God provided a Savior for the world through a young Jewish virgin. He sent an angel to orchestrate a prison break for Peter. And He won’t come up short and providing for us.

That thing you’ve been praying about, wondering when and how, trust God. It’s just around the corner and you may end up saying – Wow, I didn’t see that coming!

The Lord will provide!

Praying Not Preying

This morning I saw a picture of a praying mantis. You know the insect that looks like its’ front legs are bent in a position of prayer.

I had to stop and think for a moment – why do they call it praying and not preying? This insect eats, devours, other bugs.

There is a reality there. If we aren’t praying for others and over our circumstances we will be preying on them or we will become their prey. I’ll wait a minute while you think about that.

“Don’t worry about anything, but pray about everything. With thankful hearts offer up your prayers and requests to God. 7 Then, because you belong to Christ Jesus, God will bless you with peace that no one can completely understand. And this peace will control the way you think and feel.” Philippians 4:6-7 CEV

Pray about EVERYTHING. That’s everything. I learned years ago to pray over my grocery list and the amount of money I had in my wallet. That may seem like a small thing but the list was bigger than my cash. Most week’s I would find that the items I needed were on “special”. I came home with all that I needed to make good meals for our family and then there would be the bonus. Farmers Dave worked with would have extra veggies and fruit to give away, a dairyman would have cheese, a friend who be in the neighborhood with a couple extra bags of groceries and we would have more than enough!

Prayer and thankful hearts go together. Complaining does nothing except make you vulnerable prey for bitterness and worry.

“You have heard the law that says, ‘Love your neighbor’ and hate your enemy. 44 But I say, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you! 45 In that way, you will be acting as true children of your Father in heaven. For he gives his sunlight to both the evil and the good, and he sends rain on the just and the unjust alike.” Matthew 5:43-45 NLT

These are the words of Jesus. If anyone had just cause to harbor a grudge against their enemies it would be Jesus. A perfect man, with perfect motives, was constantly harrassed by his enemies. But He chose to pray for those who wanted Him to be discredited and who called for His death.

Pray or prey.

Quite often I will get a phone call, text or email asking me to pray. I consider that a high honor. I take time to pray right then, I don’t put it off for a more convenient time. After that, each time I am reminded of the situation I thank the Lord that He is working everything out and bringing peace to the hearts of those who need it.

“I pray that God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ will be kind and merciful to you. May they bless you with peace!” I Timothy 1:2 CEV

I hope this is a word for you today. Pray, not prey, and be filled with thankfulness and peace.

Never Satisfied!

Thank you for coming along on our adventures.

For the eighteen months you have been sharing our RV outings. We were blessed when we purchased our neighbors older 5th Wheel in December of 2019. For Dave and I it was a dream come true.

Since the time of purchase we have remodeled the inside to make it us! New flooring, walls and cabinets painted, colors added, furniture changed out, new window coverings, etc. It’s our Bunk House!

About two weeks ago we began working on the exterior. The decals were weathered and had oxided badly. That was the first step. But removing the oxidation didn’t restore the color the way we had hoped. Next step, we found a product that removes the decals completely. It was much easier than we expected and so for the last few days we have removed the nose cap decal and half of the decals on each side. Waiting for more product and then all the decals will be removed.

New decals have been ordered. A fresh new look. Dave will be washing, buffing and waxing before we head out on our next trip. All will be made new.

As we talked last night on the patio, we both expressed how happy we are to have our mobile Bunk House and began talking of all the places we want to go. We want her to be well stocked and well traveled, looking good!

God is so like that!

He takes what we were and makes us new: “Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new.” II Corinthians 5:17 CEV

He equips us for service: “God planned for us to do good things and to live as he has always wanted us to live. That’s why he sent Christ to make us what we are.” Ephesians 2:10 CEV

He sees that we are well supplied: “I pray that God will take care of all your needs with the wonderful blessings that come from Christ Jesus!” Philippians 4:19 CEV

He wants to enjoy the journey: “The robber comes only to steal and to kill and to destroy. I came so they might have life, a great full life.” John 10:10 NLV

He wants to go with us every step of the way and keep us free from fear: “God has said, ‘I will never leave you; I will never run away from you.’ 6 So we can feel sure and say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. People can do nothing to me.'” Hebrews 13:5-6 ERV

He takes care of us because He loves: “‘Don’t fear, little flock. Your Father wants to share his kingdom with you.'” Luke 12:32 ERV

Our Father does a much better job at “make overs” than we ever will. We can trust the outcome when we put ourselves in His hands.

“ Dear friends, God is good. So I beg you to offer your bodies to him as a living sacrifice, pure and pleasing. That’s the most sensible way to serve God. 2 Don’t be like the people of this world, but let God change the way you think. Then you will know how to do everything that is good and pleasing to him.” Romans 12:1-2 CEV

Making Priorities

The start of a new week.

What’s on your schedule? Do you have a calendar on the wall with a To-Do list or maybe it’s all in your smart phone or on your I-pad? You may be old fashioned like me and just have a list on a sheet of paper on the desk. Whatever it is, does it give you a sense of accomplishment to check things off when they are done?

This morning I was reading about the Apostle Paul. He had a checklist.

“I don’t know what will happen to me in Jerusalem, but I must obey God’s Spirit and go there. 23 In every city I visit, I am told by the Holy Spirit that I will be put in jail and will be in trouble in Jerusalem. 24 But I don’t care what happens to me, as long as I finish the work that the Lord Jesus gave me to do. And that work is to tell the good news about God’s great kindness.” Acts 20:22-24 CEV

Paul had been out preaching all over Asia. He told everyone, everywhere he went about Jesus. That was all he had on his list.

One thing!

One very important thing. I’m sure he had other things he could have done. After all, as he would go into new towns he needed to find a place to stay, acquire provisions, and locate new Christians but the one thing at the top of his list was his relationship with God, the Father, through Jesus Christ. He had been commissioned to tell the non-Jewish world about God’s great love and the good news of Jesus.

“I do not say that I have received this or have already become perfect. But I keep going on to make that life my own as Christ Jesus made me His own. 13 No, Christian brothers, I do not have that life yet. But I do one thing. I forget everything that is behind me and look forward to that which is ahead of me. 14 My eyes are on the crown. I want to win the race and get the crown of God’s call from heaven through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14 NLV

I have a list of things I want to accomplish today. But I will leave room at the top so that I can be ready to tell others about the Father’s goodness, mercy, kindness and grace.

But Why?

Every parent has heard the inquisitive “why” coming from the lips of their small children. Why is…the sky blue, the sun hot, grass green, etc! When those questions became greater than my limited knowledge my final answer would be “because that’s the way God planned it”.

In yesterday’s blog we saw that Jesus is our example for staying the course, not giving up in life’s race. He experienced life’s difficulties and hardships so that we can go to Him for help, knowing He has been where we are. We can draw on His strength!

But Why?…

“For a short time Jesus was made lower than the angels, but now we see him wearing a crown of glory and honor because he suffered and died. Because of God’s grace, Jesus died for everyone.

10 God—the one who made all things and for whose glory all things exist—wanted many people to be his children and share his glory. So he did what he needed to do. He made perfect the one who leads those people to salvation. He made Jesus a perfect Savior through his suffering… 14 These children are people with physical bodies. So Jesus himself became like them and had the same experiences they have.”

Why?

“Jesus did this so that, by dying, he could destroy the one who has the power of death—the devil. 15 Jesus became like these people and died so that he could free them. They were like slaves all their lives because of their fear of death… 17 For this reason, Jesus had to be made like us, his brothers and sisters, in every way. He became like people so that he could be their merciful and faithful high priest in service to God. Then he could bring forgiveness for the people’s sins. 18 And now he can help those who are tempted. He is able to help because he himself suffered and was tempted.” Hebrews 2:9-18 ERV

Jesus finished the work He came to do for us.  

Without His “It is finished” on the cross our way of salvation would not have been complete. Just like an athlete He crossed the finish line of life and rose victorious from the grave. When we cross that line there will be no fear but only hope and rejoicing as we are welcomed into heaven.

We discipline ourselves by being obedient to God’s word which keeps us from being ruled by our bodies or our emotions. Our enemy would like to draw us off course or destroy our training but when we keep our eyes on Jesus and are strengthened by God’s word we succeed. We are victorious, more than conquerors, overcomers in this life.

May I encourage you if you have felt like quitting – don’t!

Why?

“I don’t mean that I am exactly what God wants me to be. I have not yet reached that goal. But I continue trying to reach it and make it mine. That’s what Christ Jesus wants me to do. It is the reason he made me his. 13 Brothers and sisters, I know that I still have a long way to go. But there is one thing I do: I forget what is in the past and try as hard as I can to reach the goal before me. 14 I keep running hard toward the finish line to get the prize that is mine because God has called me through Christ Jesus to life up there in heaven.” Philippians 3:12-14 ERV

Keep going – the reward makes it all worth while!

Program Interrupted

This morning I am interrupting our “Like A Diamond” teaching to share with you some of my thoughts on the subject of censorship. Over the past several weeks there has been quite a bit of conversation about it.

I felt it was important to tell you that I will continue to share the Good News of Jesus Christ each and every morning. This blog is posted on several social media sites and can also be sent directly to your inbox in email form. Email is probably the best way to receive the blog each day, without interruption. You can sign up for it on the blog “Contact” page.

“I am not ashamed of the Good News. It is the power of God. It is the way He saves men from the punishment of their sins if they put their trust in Him. It is for the Jew first and for all other people also.” Romans 1:16 NLV

I truly appreciate hearing from those of you who have taken time to write comments on how a particular teaching has been helpful. I love knowing that God’s word is making a difference in your lives.

It is the Word of God that gives us the strength and boldness we need when facing daily obstacles. A young shepherd by the name of David told his adversary, Goliath “…You come to me with a sword and spears. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of All, the God of the armies of Israel, Whom you have stood against. 46 This day the Lord will give you into my hands. I will knock you down and cut off your head.” I Samuel 17:45-46 NLV

Placing our faith in the infallible Word of God gives us boldness in adverse times.

“And now, O Lord, hear their threats, and give us, your servants, great boldness in preaching your word. 30 Stretch out your hand with healing power; may miraculous signs and wonders be done through the name of your holy servant Jesus.” Acts 4:29-30 NLT

This was the prayer of Peter and John who were arrested for preaching about Jesus just days after His ascension to heaven. Even in the worst of times they asked for boldness to continue preaching.

I am so thankful for all the examples that the Bible gives us of people who were bold enough to talk about God’s love and power. It should be an encouragement to us. When we are trusting God He will never fail.

“Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do.” Philippians 4:13 ERV

Be strengthened and encouraged. Trust God. He is our provider.

Our Inheritance

When I first sat down to write Like A Diamond I was concerned that I wouldn’t be able to properly convey the depth of all God has provided for us and the value He sees in each of us.

How can man’s words accurately portray the Father’s heart?

“And they shall be Mine, says the Lord of hosts, in that day when I publicly recognize and openly declare them to be My jewels (My special possession, My peculiar treasure). And I will spare them, as a man spares his own son who serves him.” Malachi 3:17 AMPC

The verses above are God’s words about us. We are His jewels, His treasure! It’s no wonder that He has blessed us with an amazing inheritance…

Here again let’s look at the legal aspects of our relationship. Joint heirship means an equal share of the inheritance belongs to all who are listed in the will or testament.

Suppose we had been listed in our earthly father’s will as joint heirs with our siblings and part of our inheritance is a parcel of land. None of us would have the power to sell, trade or even build on that land unless the others were in complete agreement. The land belongs to all of us and we each have an equal say.

This is the same relationship that our Father has placed us in with Jesus. If that thought doesn’t thrill us to the bottom of our soul, then we haven’t realized the great truth of this facet of our relationship.

Look at Jesus’ life on earth. He was total man as we are. He laid aside His glory of the Godhead and became like us.

“And now, Father, give me the glory I had with you before the world was made.” John 17:5 ERV

Jesus spoke these words just hours before His death. He was ready to be restored to his previous heavenly glory; His earthly ministry was just about over. He became like us so that He could experience all the same things we do. He not only experienced them, but He came through them victoriously. Then He gave us His victory. Everything He has is ours and all that we have is His. He asks us to give Him our lives so that we can receive His life with all its power.

      “Jesus, our high priest, is able to understand our weaknesses. When Jesus lived on earth, he was tempted in every way. He was tempted in the same ways we are tempted, but he never sinned.” Hebrews 4:15 ERV

Jesus raised the dead, healed the sick, calmed the sea, multiplied the loaves, and caused Satan to flee on every turn. Jesus was in complete control of His circumstances; He mastered the earth and all its elements. He walked in power and authority and exercised the dominion God gave Adam in the garden. He gave His life to reclaim that dominion for us.

This should help us understand Jesus’ own promise that he made to his disciples.

“I can assure you that whoever believes in me will do the same things I have done. And they will do even greater things than I have done, because I am going to the Father.” John 14:12 ERV

Jesus defeated Satan in his own realm of authority, the world. It was not until the resurrection that Jesus completely stripped Satan of his power and then He gave that power to us. We are His joint heirs and part of our inheritance includes using the power that comes from Jesus.

“Christ is the one who gives me the strength I need to do whatever I must do.” Philippians 4:13 ERV

In these especially trying times we need to draw on our inheritance of strength.
