Thanksgiving Replaces Fear

Yesterday was our third day of rain. We had been adequately given “flood warnings” for our area. Some in our community had seen the news reports and videos of widespread flooding across our state.

We had an early morning heavy rain and the wash behind our house started flowing like a rushing river and the rain kept up.

A neighbor came over to watch the water from our patio area and wait. We invited her in because our on-line church service had come on a few minutes earlier and we enjoy the preaching so much. As he stepped to the podium, Louie Giglio announced his new series of talks, “Don’t Fear”. How appropriate!

Do you think God knew this was a message we needed to hear, I ask tongue-in-cheek? It was as if the message was just for us.

“‘Donโ€™t worryโ€”I am with you.
ย ย ย ย Donโ€™t be afraidโ€”I am your God.

I will make you strong and help you.
ย ย ย ย I will support you with my right hand that brings victory.,,
13ย I am the Lord your God,
ย ย ย ย who holds your right hand.

And I tell you, โ€˜Donโ€™t be afraid!
ย ย ย ย I will help you.
โ€™”Isaiah 41:10, 13 ERV

It was still raining. The water was still rising and rushing through the wash.

Louie continued preaching concluding with four words: Protect, Release, Trust, Overcome.

As he concluded the Lord reminded me of another Scripture from Isaiah.

“Descendants of Jacob, I, the Lord, created youย and formed your nation. Israel, don’t be afraid.ย ย I have rescued you. I have called you by name;ย now you belong to me. 2ย When you cross deep rivers, I will be with you,ย and you won’t drown. When you walk through fire,
you won’t be burnedย or scorched by the flames. 3ย I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel,ย the God who saves you.” Isaih 43:1-3 CEV

And with that I made breakfast, we talked and enjoyed our morning. Then the “Set” order for evacuation came over our phones.

We didn’t panic. We checked with the Fire Department and learned that we were in safe area, stay put and don’t get out and drive on the roads.

The water began is recede. The rains stopped for a long while and we were safe. No danger.

So, you asked, what am I thankful for today? That would be God’s promise to hold my hand and keep me safe!

Have a great day!
