and less like me…a song by Zach Williams that ran through my thoughts in the wee hours of the morning.
“Oh, I have days I lose the fight
Try my best but just don’t get it right
Where I talk a talk that I don’t walk
And miss the moments right before my eyes
Somebody with a hurt that I could have helped
Somebody with a hand that I could have held
When I just can’t see past myself
Lord, help me be
A little more like mercy, a little more like grace
A little more like kindness, goodness, love, and faith
A little more like patience, a little more like peace
A little more like Jesus, a little less like me
Yeah, there’s no denying I have changed
‘Cause I’ve been saved from who I used to be
But even at my best, I must confess
I still need help to see the way You see”
And then I began praying for myself and for all of you. What would our sphere of life look like if we made it our goal, each day, to look a little more like Jesus?
“ย But now put these things out of your life: anger, losing your temper, doing or saying things to hurt others, and saying shameful things.ย 9ย Donโt lie to each other. You have taken off those old clothesโthe person you once were and the bad things you did then.ย 10ย Now you are wearing a new life, a life that is new every day. You are growing in your understanding of the one who made you. You are becoming more and more like him.ย 11ย In this new life it doesnโt matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, circumcised or not. It doesnโt matter if you speak a different language or even if you are a Scythian.ย It doesnโt matter if you are a slave or free. Christ is all that matters, and he is in all of you.
12ย God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient.ย 13ย Donโt be angry with each other, but forgive each other. If you feel someone has wronged you, forgive them. Forgive others because the Lord forgave you.ย 14ย Together with these things, the most important part of your new life is to love each other. Love is what holds everything together in perfect unity.” Colossians 3:8-14 ERV
Jesus changed the world by sharing God’s love. I want to be more like Jesus and less like me!
