Beside the Quiet Stream

This morning I’m taking things a bit slower.

Got up a little later, sipping my coffee and enjoying the aroma. Heart filled with prayer and praise. So grateful for all the blessings – large and small.

In my heart, I’m sitting in my favorite place beside a quiet stream. In my spirit, I see my constant companion, the One who never leaves or abandons me, my Savior, my best friend, Jesus. He’s been talking and I’ve been listening. He says it’s ok to rest and He’s led me to this place.

“The Lord takes care of me,
    like a shepherd with his sheep.
I have everything that I need.
²He takes me to green fields where I can rest.
    He leads me to streams of water where I can drink.
³He gives me new strength in my life.
He is my guide to the right paths.
    He does this to give honour to his name.
⁴I may walk through a valley that is as dark as death.
    But I will not be afraid of any danger.
This is because you are with me, Lord.
Your stick and your shepherd’s pole protect me from danger.

⁵You prepare a big meal for me while my enemies watch.
You put olive oil on my head.
You bless me so much that my cup is completely full.
⁶I am sure that you will always be good to me.
You will love me all the days of my life.
That will never change.
I will live in the Lord’s house for as long as I live.” Psalm 23 EASY

You’ll have to excuse me now – it’s time for a second cup and more conversation with my Jesus!

Stillness

This morning’s message is stillness.

Life is full of noise. Too many distractions, too much to do. The call of God is stillness. Stillness from activity but more importantly stillness in our emotions and in our spirit.

“God says, “Stop fighting and know that I am God! I am the one who defeats the nations;
I am the one who controls the world. ¹¹The Lord All-Powerful is with us. The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah” Psalm 46:10-11 ERV

God wants us to be still and leave the fighting to Him. He desires to lead us to a place of peace, the peace that bypasses our natural understanding. Divine peace. The word “Selah” means to be still, pause and reflect. Reflect on God’s goodness and His greatness.

“The Lord is my shepherd. I will always have everything I need.
²He gives me green pastures to lie in. He leads me by calm pools of water.
³He restores my strength. He leads me on right paths to show that he is good.
⁴Even if I walk through a valley as dark as the grave, I will not be afraid of any danger, because you are with me. Your rod and staff comfort me.” Psalm 23:1-4 ERV

At 2 a.m. our silence was broken. An emergency alert came across our devices. “Flash flood warning. Stay in place unless you need to move to a place of safety”.

This morning that is my message and God’s message to you. Stay where the Lord has led you. Stay in place, in the green pastures where He has led you, He is with you!

Enjoy the stillness and let your soul rest!

The Sound of Refreshing

This morning as I finished my prayer time and was getting ready to write I was still wondering what I should share.

Then I heard it – it grew louder – the sound of rain on the roof! Praise God this is what we’ve been praying for. Our desert is dry and so, this is the sound of refreshing.

“The Lord your God commands you to love him and to serve him with all your heart and soul. If you obey him, ^14-15he will send rain at the right seasons, so you will have more than enough food, wine, and olive oil, and there will be plenty of grass for your cattle.” Deuteronomy 11:13-15 CEV

My instinct is to go outside and watch it rain, like a little child I like standing in the rain but first I will finish with these thoughts from the Psalms.

“You are my God. I worship you. In my heart, I long for you, as I would long for a stream
in a scorching desert. ²I have seen your power and your glory in the place of worship.
³Your love means more than life to me, and I praise you. ⁴As long as I live, I will pray to you.
⁵I will sing joyful praises and be filled with excitement like a guest at a banquet.

⁶I think about you, God, before I go to sleep, and my thoughts turn to you during the night.
⁷You have helped me, and I sing happy songs in the shadow of your wings. ⁸I stay close to you, and your powerful arm supports me.” Psalm 63:1-8 CEV

If your heart has been dry and your emotions seem parched; the fruit of peace has withered then I encourage you to enter into praise. Praise the Lord for all He’s done in the past and what He will do in your future.

But also praise Him now for sending spiritual rain and refreshing at the right time to your dry and thirsty land.
