Just The Facts

dun ta dun dun…

If you’re close to my age you remember the theme music for Dragnet.

Since it’s almost Friday, it seems a good time to remind you of those famous words spoken by Sgt. Joe Friday on every episode of Dragnet, you know the ones, “the facts ma’am, just the facts”.

But there’s a difference between the facts and the truth. Have you ever thought about that?

Wanting to know the truth, we should never settle for just the facts.

The facts according to Jewish law said that a woman caught in adultery should be stoned to death. However, the truth was Jesus was moved with compassion, he stopped her accusers, her life was spared, and she was forgiven.

The facts according to Jewish law said that a leper was declared unclean and couldn’t be in close proximity to the general population. The facts stated that a woman who had menstrual bleeding was not allowed in public.

But the truth was that Jesus came to heal the sick and so he touched the leper and healed the woman with the issue of blood.

“Suddenly a man with leprosy came and knelt in front of Jesus. He said, ‘Lord, you have the power to make me well, if only you wanted to.’ 3 Jesus put his hand on the man and said, ‘I want to! Now you are well.’ At once the man’s leprosy disappeared.” Matthew 8:2-3 CEV

“The woman had heard about Jesus, so she came up behind him in the crowd and barely touched his clothes. 28 She had said to herself, ‘If I can just touch his clothes, I will be healed.’ 29 As soon as she touched them, her bleeding stopped, and she knew she was healed…The woman knew what had happened to her. So she came trembling with fear and knelt down in front of Jesus. Then she told him the whole story. 34 Jesus said to the woman, ‘You are now well because of your faith. May God give you peace! You are healed, and you will no longer be in pain.’” Mark 5:27-29,33-34 CEV

Jesus by-passed the facts and focused on the truth. The leper needed a touch and Jesus reached out to him. The woman had exhausted all her finances seeking a cure – she needed peace, she needed healing. Jesus didn’t condemn her with the facts but was moved by compassion and healed her.

What facts could be holding you back?

Compare them with the truth of God’s word and see how God’s truth will overcome the facts of your situation.

“Lord, help me learn your ways. Show me how you want me to live. 5 Guide me and teach me your truths. You are my God, my Savior. You are the one I have been waiting for. 6 Remember to be kind to me, Lord. Show me the tender love that you have always had.” Psalm 25:4-6 ERV

The facts without compassion can be condemning but wrapping the facts in God’s compassion brings peace, healing, kindness and forgiveness.

Feeling Small?

Before we get into today’s blog let me explain about yesterday. My signal wasn’t strong enough to load and post a blog so there was none. I pray you had a wonderful day and that sometime throughout the day you felt the overwhelming sense of God’s love.

Saturday was a day off for us. Dave and I went on a hike. The first location we choose, unknown to us, was an eagle nesting sanctuary. The posted signs told us not to enter and so we moved on to a plan B.

It was at the second location I took this picture of Dave standing next to a giant ponderosa pine. My tall and handsome husband looks so tiny, just a speck next to that massive conifer.

There are times when each of us probably feel small and insignificant. There has always been someone who is more capable, more attractive, more educated, more whatever…but this isn’t the way our heavenly Father sees us.

“Aren’t two sparrows sold for only a penny? But your Father knows when any one of them falls to the ground. 30 Even the hairs on your head are counted. 31 So don’t be afraid! You are worth much more than many sparrows.” Matthew 10:29-31 CEV

Our Father knows the exact number of the hairs on our head and each day that number changes. He is invested in our well-being and the prosperity of our souls. We are not insignificant to Him.

“But the Lord says, ‘Can a woman forget her baby?  Can she forget the child who came from her body? Even if she can forget her children, I cannot forget you. 16 I drew a picture of you on my hand. You are always before my eyes.'” Isaiah 49:15-16 ERV

A changing point in my walk with Christ came when I quit trying to get God to love me and realized that His love for me is unconditional and it will never end. The Bible showed me that He loved me when I was a sinner and now that He has given me right standing with Him, He loves me still.

“Christ died for us when we were unable to help ourselves. We were living against God, but at just the right time Christ died for us. 7 Very few people will die to save the life of someone else, even if it is for a good person. Someone might be willing to die for an especially good person. 8 But Christ died for us while we were still sinners, and by this God showed how much he loves us.” Romans 5:6-8 ERV

“Anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person. The past is forgotten, and everything is new. 18 God has done it all! He sent Christ to make peace between himself and us, and he has given us the work of making peace between himself and others…21 Christ never sinned! But God treated him as a sinner, so Christ could make us acceptable to God.” II Corinthians 5:17-18, 21 CEV

The Father knew it was impossible for me to measure up to His standard, so He sent His Son to provide a way for me to be in right standing with Him. Christ died for me, for us, so that we could experience the amazing love and grace of God. Christ made us acceptable!

Our Father never sees us as to insignificant or small to be a recipient of His love!

All In

Years ago, when Dave and I were going from place to place holding cowboy camp meetings we had someone tell us, “You don’t have to go overboard with this Christianity and faith stuff”.

I loved Dave’s quick reply. He smiled and said “If we don’t go overboard, we’ll never walk on water”. We were all in, our commitment to God’s word was the final say in what we did and how we ministered.

Yesterday’s blog was on the absolute of “in everything”. That leaves nothing out – everything means everything.

Today I want us to look at some of the “all” absolutes in Scripture.

ALL – is an absolute – not some, not part – not by special selection but ALL.

“Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:” Romans 3:22-24

The righteousness of God is for ALL and to ALL who will believe because there is no one who has his own righteousness because we have ALL sinned. Our salvation is not predicated on how good we are, our social standing, our financial statement, our academic degrees, political party or our natural citizenship. It is ONLY based on what Jesus did to bring salvation to ALL. Our part is to receive the gift.

More ALL verses to contemplate today.

“Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ. 9 For in him (Christ) dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. 10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:” Colossians 2:8-10

All God’s fullness of power and deity are in Christ and when we are in Christ, we are complete in Him. He invests His fullness in our lives as well.

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; 19 And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Ephesians 3:17-19

When we understand the love of God by experience, His true unconditional love, we will be filled with ALL God’s fulness! Amazing!!

Amazing grace freely gives us this gift. The Apostle Paul prayed that we would know this fullness.

He also gave us a few other absolute “ALL” verses.

“I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. ” Philippians 4:19

If you haven’t accepted God’s free gift of grace that brings salvation, all you have to do is accept it with a sincere heart because it’s available to ALL.

“The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” II Peter 3:9

Be all in. Be all God created us to be!

I Was Lost…

and now I’m found!

What a day. It was a normal day until we heard the message come across our walkie-talkies. Little boy in one of our campsites was missing!

Our hearts sank as we requested more information – name, age, what was he wearing. Any pertinent medical issues. As we were waiting for the answers we had already begun to walk toward the forest behind his campsite and above the lake.

It seemed as if the entire campground had moved into action. We were scrambling over boulders and through the trees, calling his name. Hoping to hear a reply. Praying for his safety and a quick discovery as to his where abouts.

And after what seemed an eternity of searching, the call came, “He’s been found!” And he’s ok.

Thank you Lord!!

When the search began, my friend and I had talked to his mom. She asked, “are you looking for my little boy”. She was so anxious. When he had been found we talked to his grandmother. She brought her grandson around to show us all he was ok and to thank us for our search. She said, “I knew the Lord was watching over him”.

The emotion, the concerted effort of the campers and the successful end of the search reminded me of the way our heavenly Father is always searching for His lost children.

“Then Jesus told them this story: 4 “Suppose one of you has 100 sheep, but one of them gets lost. What will you do? You will leave the other 99 sheep there in the field and go out and look for the lost sheep. You will continue to search for it until you find it. 5 And when you find it, you will be very happy. You will carry it 6 home, go to your friends and neighbors and say to them, ‘Be happy with me because I found my lost sheep!’ 7 In the same way, I tell you, heaven is a happy place when one sinner decides to change.” Luke 15:3-7 ERV

The Father is full of compassion; He makes a way so that no one needs to be lost. He sends those who search for the lost – they may be your neighbors, a family member, friends or perhaps strangers in a campground.

“Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today you and your family have been saved, because you are a true son of Abraham. 10  The Son of Man came to look for and to save people who are lost.” Luke 19:9-10 CEV

Zacchaeus went to a parade and ended up with Jesus coming to his home for lunch and this changed his entire life.

There is no moment so dark that the light of God’s love cannot penetrate it; there is no forest so dense that presence of the Father can’t provide a way out. There is no mind so entangled in depression and anxiety that the peace of God cannot restore it.

Jesus came to seek and save the lost! Let the words of the old hymn encourage you today. Amazing grace how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me. I was once lost but now I’m found, was blind but now I see.

Support Needed

A few years back it seemed that we were being asked to support a myriad of causes and it would only cost us $19 a month.

There are social issues, political issues, humanitarian causes, educational, religious, medical, environmental, recreational, cultural and even artistic areas that are asking for our time and support. And each of us have an area that appeals to us more than others but these things cannot be our focus.

Jesus was faced with all the same issues when he walked the earth and he gave this admonition to his disciples.

“For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?” Matthew 16:26 NKJV

To achieve greatness for self or mankind is futile if it causes us to loose sight of the most important calling we have, relationship with Jesus Christ!

There is no Nobel prize, humanitarian award, national acclaim or public recognition that can compare with knowing God and having Him speak your name.

“Then Jesus said to his followers, “If any of you want to be my follower, you must stop thinking about yourself and what you want. You must be willing to carry the cross that is given to you for following me. 25 Any of you who try to save the life you have will lose it. But you who give up your life for me will find true life. 26 It is worth nothing for you to have the whole world if you yourself are lost. You could never pay enough to buy back your life. 27 The Son of Man will come again with his Father’s glory and with his angels. And he will reward everyone for what they have done.” Matthew 16:24-27 ERV

We can become weary and exhausted from “trying” to fix all the worlds woes. Our own efforts will fall short every time. But there is a place of rest and that is found in Jesus.

“If you are tired from carrying heavy burdens, come to me and I will give you rest. 29 Take the yoke I give you. Put it on your shoulders and learn from me. I am gentle and humble, and you will find rest. 30 This yoke is easy to bear, and this burden is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 CEV

Give up trying to gain the world and find rest in Him today!

Separated

The last several days we have experienced a real disconnect from cell and internet service. I know you recognize this as a common problem because I mention it when I am delayed with postings, sometimes by days and others by just hours.

But for some reason this time was particularly disheartening. I felt isolated, you see it was my birthday a couple of days ago and I was receiving notifications that I had messages and comments waiting but I had no way of reading them. It made me sad.

I was telling the Father about this yesterday morning and as the sun was coming up I looked out the window and saw this little glimpse of heaven’s beauty shining in. This glow of sunrise let me know that the Father was there and although I was separated from all of you, I wasn’t from Him.

“So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? If God didn’t hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn’t gladly and freely do for us? And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God’s chosen? Who would dare even to point a finger? The One who died for us—who was raised to life for us!—is in the presence of God at this very moment sticking up for us. Do you think anyone is going to be able to drive a wedge between us and Christ’s love for us? There is no way! Not trouble, not hard times, not hatred, not hunger, not homelessness, not bullying threats, not backstabbing, not even the worst sins listed in Scripture: They kill us in cold blood because they hate you. We’re sitting ducks; they pick us off one by one. None of this fazes us because Jesus loves us. I’m absolutely convinced that nothing—nothing living or dead, angelic or demonic, today or tomorrow, high or low, thinkable or unthinkable—absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love because of the way that Jesus our Master has embraced us.” Romans 8:35-39 MSG

“I’m absolutely convinced that nothing…absolutely nothing can get between us and God’s love”!

Nothing absolutely nothing.

The only thing that separated us at one time was our sin but the blood of Christ took care of that.

“God is sheer mercy and grace; not easily angered, he’s rich in love. He doesn’t endlessly nag and scold, nor hold grudges forever. He doesn’t treat us as our sins deserve, nor pay us back in full for our wrongs. As high as heaven is over the earth, so strong is his love to those who fear him. And as far as sunrise is from sunset, he has separated us from our sins. As parents feel for their children, God feels for those who fear him. He knows us inside and out, keeps in mind that we’re made of mud.” Psalm 103:7-14 MSG

Our Father has separated us from our sins!

He made the way for us always to be connected to Him; we are always in right standing because of His grace.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, can or will separate us from the Father’s love!

It’s Ok to Say “Help”

Yesterday was the busiest day for receiving campers, the first day of a holiday weekend!

We thought we were prepared for the influx but it exceeded our imagination. Over 80 camping families arrived in the afternoon. All needed to be greeted, checked in and reminded of a few rules of the campground.

13+ campers an hour for six hours. Works out to one every 4 minutes. Whoa!

Dave and I couldn’t have done it on our own. We are so thankful for the team that we are a part of. The other host couples jumped in to help with the work. Some cleaned bathrooms while others collected license plate numbers and helped keep the line of campers and trailers flowing smoothly.

Praise God! What a blessing.

“I call to God, I cry to God to help me. From his palace he hears my call; my cry brings me right into his presence— a private audience!” Psalm 18:6 MSG

I was blessed with a good night’s sleep but my body was weary when I woke. Have you ever been there? I prayed and said “Father, help me. Help me to be ready for this day. Strengthen me so that I will be a testimony of your love”.

“The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. His Spirit is a source of power and love and self-control.” II Timothy 1:7 ERV

The Father blesses us with strength for our minds, our emotions and our bodies. He has never intended for us to go through this life without His strength. He gives it freely. He wants us to depend on Him.

Jesus said “Come to me all you who are weary and burdened down. I will give you rest.”

Remember, it’s ok to ask for help. When we ask, He provides!

Wrapped in Warmth

When I was praying this morning, I wrote these words: “Let me wear Your compassion like a cape and willingly wrap all who need the warmth of Your love”.

It’s a chilly morning, lots of moisture in the air from yesterday’s rain and although I’m wrapped in my fleece blanket, I was thinking about my warm cape that I usually wear in winter. There’s more than enough yardage to wrap around myself and my grandchildren. It’s perfect for snuggling.

That cape serves to keep me warm and it is an example of how the Father wraps us in the warmth of His compassion.

“The Lord is kind and merciful, patient and full of love. 9 The Lord is good to everyone.
 He shows his mercy to everything he made. 10 Lord, all you have made will give thanks to you. Your loyal followers will praise you. 11 They will tell how great your kingdom is. They will tell how great you are…The Lord can be trusted in all that he says.  He is loyal in all that he does. 14 The Lord lifts up people who have fallen.  He helps those who are in trouble. 15 All living things look to you for their food, and you give them their food at the right time. 16 You open your hands and give every living thing all that it needs. 17 Everything the Lord does is good. Everything he does shows how loyal he is. 18 The Lord is near to everyone who sincerely calls to him for help. 19 He listens to his followers and does what they want. He answers their prayers and saves them. 20 The Lord protects everyone who loves him, but he destroys all who do evil. 21 I will praise the Lord! Let everyone praise his holy name forever and ever!” Psalm 145:8-21 ERV

These verses are some of my “every day” read. “The Lord is kind and merciful, patient and full of love.”

Daily He reaches out to us. Daily He wraps us in His love. Daily He listens to our prayers. Daily He protects us. Daily I will praise Him!

Maybe you are feeling a bit of a chill this morning, maybe you are feeling cold and indifferent. The Lord can be trusted, He lifts us the fallen and everything He does is good.

Take a few minutes to tell Him your heart and let Him wrap you in the warmth of His love.

Wonderfully Made

Enjoying Life

The dawn is breaking and this is the start of a wonderful day!

“The Lord made this happen, and we think it is wonderful! 24 This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be happy today!” Psalm 118:23-24 ERV

Yesterday we were told that this morning at 6 am the fire restrictions in the forest will be lifted and campers can enjoy real campfires. In my imagination I can hear the giggles of children knowing they will be able to enjoy s’mores but more than that I sense the relief of all who enjoy this place knowing that we have had sufficient rain to stop the threat of forest fires.

One year ago today we were evacuated because the fire danger was high and any uncontained sparks could have caused the loss of our forest. This morning, life on the mountain has been refreshed.

What was life like for you a year ago or just six months ago? Were you in a scary place? Things seemed uncertain at best?

“But the Lord is faithful. He will give you strength and protect you from the Evil One.” II Thessalonians 3:3 ERV

But here you are today – the Lord has brought you through that. He has sustained you, protected you and given you strength.

Or maybe today isn’t your best day. You don’t see much in life to enjoy. If that’s where you are, look up.

“I look up to the hills, but where will my help really come from? 2 My help will come from the Lord, the Creator of heaven and earth. 3 He will not let you fall. Your Protector will not fall asleep.” Psalm 121:1-3 ERV

Our help comes from the Lord, the creator of the hills!

God wants His goodness to be displayed in our lives and He’s given us the Holy Spirit to empower us to do that very thing.

“Give this command to those who are rich with the things of this world. Tell them not to be proud. Tell them to hope in God, not their money. Money cannot be trusted, but God takes care of us richly. He gives us everything to enjoy.” I Timothy 6:17 ERV

Take time to enjoy life. Surely His goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.
