God Will!

Impatience is a destroyer of faith.

When we become impatient, we begin to try to work things out on our own – we wonder if God is ever going to come through – what’s taking sooooooooooo long? Those kinds of thoughts come from doubt and bring fear – fear that it is never going to work out right. Doubt and fear will choke out the promises of God’s word – they can outweigh faith, if we let them. We must stand with confidence in God’s word if we expect to see God’s promised fulfilled.

When I pray, I pray in faith, knowing that when I pray God’s word I am praying His will and this gives me confidence to know that He will answer.

” But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. 7 For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. 8 A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” James 1:6-8 KJV

“ We can come to God with no doubts. This means that when we ask God for things (and those things agree with what God wants for us), God cares about what we say. 15 He listens to us every time we ask him. So we know that he gives us whatever we ask from him.” I John 5:14-15 ERV

Abram followed God from his home out into the middle of nowhere because God made him a promise. A promise that he would possess great land and be the father of many nations. But Abraham never really took possession of the land he had been promised – he lived the life of a nomad – moving from place to place but all the time he held fast to God’s promise.

What is it that God has promised you? What have you left to follow God? No looking back – keep your eyes on the prize of the high calling of God. Don’t give up – don’t fall back. Move forward – continue to follow in obedience to what God has put in your heart.

“Now without faith it is impossible to please God, for the one who draws near to Him must believe that He exists and rewards those who seek Him…By faith Abraham, when he was called, obeyed and went out to a place he was going to receive as an inheritance. He went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he stayed as a foreigner in the land of promise, living in tents with Isaac and Jacob, coheirs of the same promise. 10 For he was looking forward to the city that has foundations, whose architect and builder is God.

11 By faith even Sarah herself, when she was unable to have children, received power to conceive offspring, even though she was past the age, since she considered that the One who had promised was faithful. 12 Therefore from one man—in fact, from one as good as dead—came offspring as numerous as the stars of heaven and as innumerable as the grains of sand by the seashore.” Hebrews 11:6, 8-12

“Do any of you have a son? If he asked for bread, would you give him a rock? 10 Or if he asked for a fish, would you give him a snake? Of course not! 11 You people are so bad, but you still know how to give good things to your children. So surely your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him.” Matthew 7:9-11 ERV

Keep going knowing your Father in heaven protects and provides for His children. God can and He will!

Tie It Together

Some years back I was doing a one-on-one Bible Study with a friend and she asked, “How does the Old Testament tie in with the New Testament, making it practical for today?”.

Yes, she knew that the Old Testament was filled with prophetic teachings about the birth of Christ, His crucifixion and the end times but she was missing the day-to-day applications for her life.

I think that is quite common so let me take a few minutes with you this morning to go through that.

I’m sure that most of you know the story of Abraham. He was 100 years old when his son Isaac was born. The Lord told Abraham that he would be the father of many nations and that his descendants would be more numerous than the sand on the seashore. Abraham was the father of the nation of Israel but we, who follow Christ, are also his descendants.

God’s word is filled with blessings for all of us. The Old Testament is filled with rich and wonderful promises from God to His people. The New Testament tells us that when we are in Christ, the blessings made to Abraham and those in the Old Testament are available to us as well.

“Because of what Jesus Christ did, the blessing God promised to Abraham was given to all people. Christ died so that by believing in him we could have the Spirit that God promised… Now, in Christ, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Greek, a slave or free, male or female. You are all the same in Christ Jesus. 29 You belong to Christ, so you are Abraham’s descendants. You get all of God’s blessings because of the promise that God made to Abraham.” Galatians 3: 14, 28 & 29 ERV

God’s blessings are for our whole life – spiritually, physically and emotionally. His blessings bring wholeness. The blessings the Lord gave to Abraham were perpetual, they continued through the generations. Moses repeated them to the Israelites before they occupied the Promised Land.

” So remember that the LORD your God is the only God, and you can trust him! He keeps his agreement. He shows his love and kindness to all people who love him and obey his commands. He continues to show his love and kindness through a thousand generations, 10 but the LORD punishes people who hate him. He will destroy them. He will not be slow to punish those who hate him. 11 So you must be careful to obey the commands, laws, and rules that I give you today.

12 “If you listen to these laws, and if you are careful to obey them, the LORD your God will keep his agreement of love with you. He promised this to your ancestors. 13 He will love you and bless you. He will make your nation grow. He will bless your children. He will bless your fields with good crops and will give you grain, new wine, and oil. He will bless your cows with calves and your sheep with lambs. You will have all these blessings in the land that he promised your ancestors to give you.

14 “You will be blessed more than all people. Every husband and wife will be able to have children. Your cows will be able to have calves. 15 The LORD will take away all sickness from you and he will not let you catch any of the terrible diseases that you had in Egypt” Deuteronomy 7:9-15 ERV

When God first chose a people, Abraham’s descendants, to be His own, He blessed them in every area of their lives. Those blessings of the Old Testament are still valid for us today. But a greater blessing is ours as well. We have been made right with God through the sacrifice of Christ.

“… the new agreement that Jesus brought from God to his people is much greater than the old one. And the new agreement is based on better promises.” Hebrews 8:6 ERV

The Lord’s promises are still valid. He does not lie. Walk in His blessing today!

Freedom

Each morning I rise with gratitude in my heart.

Thankful for God’s love, the sacrifice of Jesus when He paid the price for my sins and the Holy Spirit who dwells in me, guiding my life.

I’m also thankful for the freedom we have in this nation. So much to be thankful for, so much to appreciate. God has blessed us so much in this country of ours…its great to have these days of Independence, reflecting on the sacrifice of so many and remembering that the fireworks are a symbol of cannon fire and rifle blasts. The sounds of freedom!

I am eternally grateful for the freedom from the wages of sin. I have this freedom because Jesus chose to die for me! Unconditional love and a gift of mercy!

” In the past you were spiritually dead because of your sins and the things you did against God. 2 Yes, in the past your lives were full of those sins. You lived the way the world lives, following the ruler of the evil power] that are above the earth. That same spirit is now working in those who refuse to obey God. 3 In the past all of us lived like that, trying to please our sinful selves. We did all the things our bodies and minds wanted. Like everyone else in the world, we deserved to suffer God’s anger just because of the way we were.

4 But God is rich in mercy, and he loved us very much. 5 We were spiritually dead because of all we had done against him. But he gave us new life together with Christ. (You have been saved by God’s grace.)” Ephesians 2:1-5 ERV

Each day I am thankful for the “But God” that is in Scripture. “But God is rich in mercy, and he loved us very much”. God’s love is greater than our transgressions. His mercy and grace eliminate the penalty that we should have to pay for our sins. That freedom comes to us from Christ.

“ So if the Son makes you free, you are really free.” John 8:36 ERV

Free from a guilty conscience, free from past failures and shortcomings. Free from the power of sin and death.

“If you belong to Christ Jesus, you won’t be punished. 2 The Holy Spirit will give you life that comes from Christ Jesus and will set you free from sin and death. 3 The Law of Moses cannot do this, because our selfish desires make the Law weak. But God set you free when he sent his own Son to be like us sinners and to be a sacrifice for our sin. God used Christ’s body to condemn sin.” Romans 8:1-3 CEV

There it is again…But God. He set us free!

As our nation is set to celebrate our independence as a country, make it a day to celebrate your freedom in Christ!

Legacy

Thank you to the many mothers and grandmothers out there who have taught their children to love the Lord and to serve others. You are true blessings to the world.

” I always remember you in my prayers day and night. And in these prayers I thank God for you. He is the God my ancestors served, and I have always served him with a clear conscience. 4 I remember that you cried for me. I want very much to see you so that I can be filled with joy. 5 I remember your true faith. That kind of faith first belonged to your grandmother Lois and to your mother Eunice. I know you now have that same faith. 6 That is why I want you to remember the gift God gave you. God gave you that gift when I laid my hands on you. Now I want you to use that gift and let it grow more and more, like a small flame grows into a fire. 7 The Spirit God gave us does not make us afraid. His Spirit is a source of power and love and self-control.” II Timothy 1:3-7 ERV

I was blessed to have grown up with a praying grandmother and mother.

My grandmother would spend hours each day praying for all her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Mom did too. That’s who they were.

Moms you may not have great wealth and earthly possessions to give your children but don’t be discouraged. What you have is your time, your love, your understanding and your prayers. These are the gifts of inheritance that matter the most.

“a woman who honors the Lord deserves to be praised.” Proverbs 31-30 CEV

Giving praise to the mothers and grandmothers today who have given us a godly legacy!

It’s Paid For!

I want to tell you a story about a young man who loved to golf. His game was improving, and he wanted to venture out on the course on his own.

His father told him to stop by the pro shop and get anything he wanted. He should rent a cart, and it was up to him if he played 9 or 18 holes. He was filled with excitement!

Off he went on his day of independent adventure.

He was really having one of his best days; par on most every hole but even a birdie. Great!

As he was walking up to the final tee reality hit him. He had to settle up at the pro shop for his purchases, he had greens fees to pay. The reality of the cost robbed the joy and excitement he had felt up to this point. He made it through that final hole, all-the-while thinking about the settlement that was coming due.

He headed to the club house and would face whatever ridicule, and judgement came with not being able to pay for the charges. When he was presented with the tab, he saw written on the slip “PAID”. And then he saw his dad standing across the room and he knew why it had been paid in full.

Of course, you know this is a fictional story, but it is a parallel to our life as followers of Christ.

“But as for me, I know that the One Who bought me and made me free from sin lives, and that He will stand upon the earth in the end.” Job 19:25 NLV

“He paid for our sins with His own blood. He did not pay for ours only, but for the sins of the whole world.” I John 2:2 NLV

“God bought you with a great price. So honor God with your body. You belong to Him.” I Corinthians 6:20 NLV

We can’t earn our salvation. Our relationship with the Lord is a gift He offers us freely. However, we should always be grateful because it was His sacrifice that paid for the gift!

It’s Your Love!

A couple days a week there is line-dancing in the hall next to our office. I like hearing the music; it reminds me of the days that Dave and I went to the country dance club. Good memories!

This morning when I woke up a Faith Hill/Tim McGraw song was playing on a continuous loop in my head. “It’s Your Love”.

I sat here in the quiet and sang along, over and over again. Then I picked up my journal and wrote:

“Father, It’s Your Love! Amazing, wonderful, marvelous, affirming, unconditional, supportive, corrective, life-giving. It’s Your Love!”

The lyrics are still enveloping my thoughts.

“Better than I was
More than I am
And all of this happened
By takin’ your hand

And who I am now
Is who I wanted to be
And now that we’re together
I’m stronger than ever
I’m happy and free

Oh, it’s a beautiful thing
Don’t think I can keep it all in, no
And if you asked me why I changed

All I gotta do is say your sweet name – Jesus! The name above every name; the name that is the embodiment of love.

“The Lord is kind and merciful, patient and full of love. 9 The Lord is good to everyone.
    He shows his mercy to everything he made.” Psalm 145:8-9 ERV

“The Lord is kind and merciful. He is patient and full of love. 9 He does not always criticize. He does not stay angry with us forever. 10 We sinned against him, but he didn’t give us the punishment we deserved. 11 His love for his followers is as high above us as heaven is above the earth. 12 And he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:8-12 ERV

“ Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. 5 Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. 6 Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. 7 Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits.

8 Love will never end. ” I Corinthians 13:4-8 ERV

“Dear friends, we should love each other, because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has become God’s child. And so everyone who loves knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love. 9 This is how God showed his love to us: He sent his only Son into the world to give us life through him.” I John 4:7-9 ERV

One more time, say it with me – “Heavenly Father, it’s Your love!”

A Godly Interruption

Yesterday we saw how the Lord has instructed us to be gentle and kind to everyone.

Are you looking to be set-up by God today? You know, those “chance” meetings, wondering about people you used to be close with, just being in the right place at the right time.

God’s set-ups!

Philip was open to God using him. When Saul started persecuting the Chrisitans in Jerusalem, Philip went to Samaria to preach there. Then one day the Lord told him to go south of Jerusalem on the road to Gaza. Philip obeyed.

There he met a high official in Egypt’s political system. The man was reading the book of Isaiah but didn’t really understand what he was reading.

“The Spirit said to Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.’ 30 So he went toward the chariot, and he heard the man reading from Isaiah the prophet. Philip asked him, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’

31 The man answered, ‘How can I understand? I need someone to explain it to me.’ Then he invited Philip to climb in and sit with him… The official said to Philip, ‘Please, tell me, who is the prophet talking about? Is he talking about himself or about someone else?’ 35 Philip began to speak. He started with this same Scripture and told the man the Good News about Jesus.” Acts 8:29-35 ERV

There are people all around us waiting for someone to be their Philip. We need to slow down from our own demanding schedules and allow the Lord to direct us to them.

Maybe the Lord will have you pay for someone’s groceries or pay for their meal at a restaurant. He could ask you to assist them by mowing a lawn or helping change a tire. I hardly ever, hardly ever, give money to those with signs on street corners but occasionally the Lord prompts my heart so strongly that I know I just have too.

It might be as simple as giving someone a smile and a God bless you. It might be asking someone how they are doing and really listening to their answer. Philip was listening, he heard the man and then he asked a question.

It’s the Father’s job to prepare hearts but it’s our job to be prepared to be obedient when He calls on us to be a part of a godly interruption.

Are any of you praying for the Lord to send someone to minister to your children or a dear friend? What if that person is too busy? Maybe we are the answer to someone’s prayer for their loved one. Are we ready?

When we take time to listen to the Father, He can use us to be the answer to someone’s prayer!

Reflection

Sitting here this morning reflecting on all the activities of the last few days. The wonderful sound of laughter, phone calls filled with loving words, cards and letters from friends far and near, the presents, the food, the love…

God’s amazing love!

Man’s love may fail or wane, but God’s love is unconditional, it endures forever. With that in mind I’d like to share one of my favorite passages with you again. Time and again I find myself reflecting on this chapter.

King David had experienced so much; he never took God’s love and mercy for granted. I pray that my heart always stays soft and open to the mercy and grace of God.

“With all my heart I praise the Lord, and with all that I am I praise his holy name!

2 With all my heart I praise the Lord! I will never forget how kind he has been.

3 The Lord forgives our sins, heals us when we are sick, 4 and protects us from death.

His kindness and love are a crown on our heads.

5 Each day that we live, he provides for our needs and gives us the strength of a young eagle. 6 For all who are mistreated, the Lord brings justice. 7 He taught his Law to Moses and showed all Israel what he could do.

8 The Lord is merciful! He is kind and patient, and his love never fails.

9 The Lord won’t always be angry and point out our sins; 10 he doesn’t punish us as our sins deserve.

11 How great is God’s love for all who worship him? Greater than the distance between heaven and earth!

12 How far has the Lord taken our sins from us? Farther than the distance from east to west!

13 Just as parents are kind to their children, the Lord is kind to all who worship him, 14 because he knows we are made of dust. 15 We humans are like grass or wild flowers

that quickly bloom. 16 But a scorching wind blows, and they quickly wither to be forever forgotten.

17 The Lord is always kind to those who worship him, and he keeps his promises to their descendants 18 who faithfully obey him.

19 God has set up his kingdom in heaven, and he rules the whole creation. 20 All of you mighty angels, who obey God’s commands, come and praise your Lord! 21 All of you thousands who serve and obey God, come and praise your Lord! 22 All of God’s creation and all that he rules, come and praise your Lord! With all my heart I praise the Lord!” Psalm 103 CEV

No better way to start the New Year than reflecting on God’s goodness with a heart full of praise!

The Birth – The Life – The Eternal God

Merry Christmas to you all!

Twas the morning of Christmas and all through the house, the only creatures stirring are Dave & I.

The coffee is brewed, and my cup is full but not nearly as full as my heart which is overflowing with love and appreciation for each of my family and friends who are reading this non-rhyming message.

A world changing event transpired over 2000 years ago when the sky was filled with an angelic chorus. A baby born affected the whole human race by introducing unconditional love in human flesh to reconcile us to a perfect and merciful God the Father.

Our prayer for you and your families this morning is that you know Him personally and that you have allowed Him to change your life. This is the life He modeled and the life He gives to us.

“Now you are wearing a new life, a life that is new every day. You are growing in your understanding of the one who made you. You are becoming more and more like him. 11 In this new life it doesn’t matter if you are a Greek or a Jew, circumcised or not. It doesn’t matter if you speak a different language or even if you are a Scythian. It doesn’t matter if you are a slave or free. Christ is all that matters, and he is in all of you.

12 God has chosen you and made you his holy people. He loves you. So your new life should be like this: Show mercy to others. Be kind, humble, gentle, and patient. 13 Don’t be angry with each other, but forgive each other. If you feel someone has wronged you, forgive them. Forgive others because the Lord forgave you. 14 Together with these things, the most important part of your new life is to love each other. Love is what holds everything together in perfect unity. 15 Let the peace that Christ gives control your thinking. It is for peace that you were chosen to be together in one body. And always be thankful.” Colossians 3:10-15

I woke up this morning thanking the Lord for coming as a baby, living a perfect sinless life as an example for us, dying in my place for sin and then rising to life again so that I could have new life in Him.

Christ is all that matters, and He lives in us!

“This is what God commands: that we believe in his Son Jesus Christ, and that we love each other as he commanded. 24 All who obey God’s commands live in God. And God lives in them. How do we know that God lives in us? We know because of the Spirit he gave us.” I John 3:23-24 ERV

May we all live a life reflecting Him and His great love!

Be merry for Christ is born!

Loaded Up

Every morning starts the same – coffee brewing, prayer and Bible reading. Somedays little distractions shorten the time frame but that has been my morning meditation for years. Never routine – always a blessing.

Here we are just a few days before Thanksgiving and other than the grocery store commercials not a lot is being said about this day that was set aside for giving thanks.

Our hearts should be overflowing with thankfulness.

God has been gracious and kind. There may have been disappointments and even heart aches in the last year, but God remains faithful and trustworthy.

He continues to bring blessings and benefits into our lives.

” Do not be misled, my beloved brothers and sisters. 17 Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above; it comes down from the Father of lights [the Creator and Sustainer of the heavens], in whom there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes]. 18 It was of His own will that He gave us birth [as His children] by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits of His creatures [a prime example of what He created to be set apart to Himself—sanctified, made holy for His divine purposes].

19 Understand this, my beloved brothers and sisters. Let everyone be quick to hear [be a careful, thoughtful listener], slow to speak [a speaker of carefully chosen words and], slow to anger [patient, reflective, forgiving]; ” James 1:16-19 AMP

He is the giver of every good and perfect gift, and He does not change. We need to listen more and murmur less. This will definitely bring us closer to thankful hearts.

Maybe you are a bit apprehensive about the Thanksgiving gathering. Different people with different opinions. Different customs, different football teams (that’s a big one for some).

Invite the One who never changes, there is no variation [no rising or setting] or shadow cast by His turning [for He is perfect and never changes], Let Him lead the conversation. Seek those who are hurting – listen instead of speaking. Be a quick listener and a slow speaker.

Listen to the elderly and listen to the littles. Their world is so different from the one we were raised in. They need our prayers and our words of wisdom. They need our unconditional love.

“We praise you, Lord God! You treat us with kindness day after day, and you rescue us. 20 You always protect us and save us from death.” Psalm 68:19-20 CEV

One translation of this verse says ” Blessed be the Lord, who daily loadeth us with benefits, even the God of our salvation. Selah.”

Daily, He loads us up with benefits…Selah (stop and think).

When I read this verse, I think of being in Montana where each morning I had my arms loaded up with firewood. Firewood is an essential in some parts of the world. Without fire there’s no cooking, heat, purifying of water and there is no fire without firewood. It’s lifesaving and although it may seem like drudgery, those who depend on the wood, carry it gladly.

In the verse above says that He daily loads us up with benefits. Never tire of holding out your arms to be loaded up with benefits that come from the Father.

Let God use you to bring life-warming benefits to others!
