A Full Plate

That definitely described my week. All the little things that suddenly needed my attention, pushing the more important issues aside, although, only momentarily, distracted me for a while.

My new personal computer kept dropping its wireless internet connection when I was in the middle of something important, like my morning blog. A vehicle that needed to be taken to the shop for service and then picked up again, an afterwork hair appointment that I forgot about until I had started dinner and needed to rush out to be there on time.

A glitch in my banking technology, a new program that needed an outside source verification. All the little things that added to the “to-do’s” of the work day.

” When someone says they have a ‘full plate,’ they’re often indicating that they’re busy, overwhelmed, or managing multiple priorities simultaneously.”

That was me!

Yesterday, my boss called in the morning and asked if I had any more room on my plate. With a chuck I said, “Yes, for a few more things but the alligators are now swimming around my feet”.

None of these things are/were life-threatening, not serious things that some of my friends are going through. Just time-robbing disturbances. And yes, I realized what I needed to do.

“…we must catch the little foxes that destroy the vineyards.” Song of Solomon 2:15 CEV

We must take all those little annoyances, those thoughts of being overwhelmed and hold them captive.

“You will keep the man in perfect peace whose mind is kept on You, because he trusts in You. Trust in the Lord forever. For the Lord God is a Rock that lasts forever.” Isaiah 26:3-4 NLV

“Wait for the Lord. Be strong. Let your heart be strong. Yes, wait for the Lord.” Psalm 27:14 NLV

When the Lord repeats something He isn’t wasting words – it’s for emphasis. Strong emphasis!

Don’t get caught up in the busy-ness and stress. Step away. Capture the anxious thoughts and keep your mind set on the Lord.

In the middle of it all, I stepped outside, took a breath of fresh air, and said a prayer. I’m happy to report that when I left work my plate was empty and the alligators were gone.

Have a great weekend! Trust in the Lord!!

Faithfulness

“In the morning when I rise, In the morning when I rise, In the morning when I rise, give me Jesus! Give me Jesus, give me Jesus. In the morning when I rise just give me Jesus!”

Just a little chorus we used to sing but more than that it’s an attitude of the heart and the prayer on my lips each day. Just give me Jesus!

Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness.24 “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul, “Therefore I hope in Him!” Lamentations 3:22-24 NKJV

I cannot explain the joy in my heart each day as I experience the Lord’s faithfulness – it’s new every morning.

Things don’t have to be going right – everything doesn’t need to be perfect, far from that. It’s in the imperfection of the moment, in the struggles, in the times when hope begins to fade that the Father’s great faithfulness undergirds and gives strength.

“O God, listen to my cry! Hear my prayer! From the ends of the earth, I cry to you for help
when my heart is overwhelmed. Lead me to the towering rock of safety, for you are my safe refuge, a fortress where my enemies cannot reach me. Let me live forever in your sanctuary, safe beneath the shelter of your wings!” Psalm 61:1-4 NLT

Let me pray for you.

“Father God, these friends of mine, some I have never met need to draw strength from you today. Some are discouraged, some are frightened, some feel lost and alone. By your Spirit, lead them to the rock of your safety. Be their portion. Show them your faithfulness. Lift their heads and show them Your unfailing love. In Jesus name.”

In the morning when I rise, all I need is Jesus!

Stillness

This morning’s message is stillness.

Life is full of noise. Too many distractions, too much to do. The call of God is stillness. Stillness from activity but more importantly stillness in our emotions and in our spirit.

“God says, “Stop fighting and know that I am God! I am the one who defeats the nations;
I am the one who controls the world. 11 The Lord All-Powerful is with us. The God of Jacob is our place of safety. Selah” Psalm 46:10-11 ERV

God wants us to be still and leave the fighting to Him. He desires to lead us to a place of peace, the peace that bypasses our natural understanding. Divine peace. The word “Selah” means to be still, pause and reflect. Reflect on God’s goodness and His greatness.

“The Lord is my shepherd. I will always have everything I need.
He gives me green pastures to lie in. He leads me by calm pools of water.
He restores my strength. He leads me on right paths to show that he is good.
Even if I walk through a valley as dark as the grave, I will not be afraid of any danger, because you are with me. Your rod and staff comfort me.” Psalm 23:1-4 ERV

At 2 a.m. our silence was broken. An emergency alert came across our devices. “Flash flood warning. Stay in place unless you need to move to a place of safety”.

This morning that is my message and God’s message to you. Stay where the Lord has led you. Stay in place, in the green pastures where He has led you, He is with you!

Enjoy the stillness and let your soul rest!

Breathtaking

Have you ever had an experience where you had to grab a breath? The beauty of nature – the birth of a child – seeing your mate at the altar?

Breathless! Breathtaking! Awesome!

The image I used this morning was from a sunset we saw the other night coming home from town. Dave was driving and he didn’t think it was much, looking through the rearview mirror but when we stopped…he said “that’s amazing”!

Sometimes I see things in nature, hear a symphony or see a loved one and it takes my breath away. I feel the presence of God in those times. Our Father is so vast in His existence and omniscient in power.

Our God is an awesome God!

You have an assignment today. I don’t often assign homework but today’s the day.

Take time to find something where you can focus on the awesomeness of the Father. Sitting quietly in His presence and let Him speak words of love to your heart.

“The Lord Most High is awesome. He is the great King over all the earth.” Psalm 47:2 ERV

“Look at the powerful things the Lord has done. See the awesome things he has done on earth.” Psalm 46:8 ERV

“He rescued his people and made his agreement with them forever. His name is awesome and holy.” Psalm 11:19 ERV

“I prayed to the Lord my God and told him about all my sins. I said, “Lord, you are a great and awesome God. You keep your agreement of love and kindness with people who love you. You keep your agreement with the people who obey your commands.” Daniel 9:4 ERV

Take time, after all He took time for you!

Life with Benefits

Yesterday I had a routine visit to the dentist. You know the semi-annual cleaning. Everything went well – the hygienist is so sweet and she’s very thorough. When I was checking out, I learned that our dentist office is no longer “in network” and next year we will be without a dental benefit if we continue with this practice.

What??

Our practice is under new ownership. Our previous dentist sold the practice and two new dentists, who are very good, purchased it but now it is out-of-network. We like the new dentists and especially our hygienist.

But…we’ve lost our benefit. Have you ever been in a situation where you lost benefits?

That’s one thing we never have to be concerned about in our relationship with the Lord.

Honor and thanks be to the Lord, Who carries our heavy loads day by day. He is the God Who saves us20 Our God is a God Who sets us free. The way out of death belongs to God the Lord.” Psalm 68:19-20 NLV

“We praise you, Lord God! You treat us with kindness day after day, and you rescue us. 20 You always protect us and save us from death.” Psalm 68:19-20 CEV

“Blessed be the Lord, Who daily loads us with benefits, The God of our salvation! Selah
20 Our God is the God of salvation; And to God the Lord belong escapes from death.” Psalm 68:19-20 NJKV

The Lord, our Father, the God of salvation daily loads us up with benefits. When we are in Christ, we are “in-network”. We don’t have to get a referral or special authorization to enjoy the benefits. We don’t have a co-pay – that was all taken care of on the cross.

Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” Psalm 103:1-5

When it comes to our relationship with the Lord, we are always in an open enrollment. We aren’t limited to calendar restrictions.

For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him13 For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'” Romans 10:12-13 NKJV

The premium has been paid for.

“Then he said, ‘Here I am, God. I have come to do what you want.‘ So God ends that first system of sacrifices and starts his new way. 10 Jesus Christ did the things God wanted him to do. And because of that, we are made holy through the sacrifice of Christ’s body. Christ made that sacrifice one time—enough for all time.” Hebrews 10:9-10 ERV

Because of Christ we have life with benefits!

Time of Resting

It’s been a wonderful weekend. No agenda, no schedule – just enjoy the beauty we saw and each others company.

I hope you know how to relax. The Lord wants that for you!

“I will always look to you, as you stand beside meand protect me from fear. With all my heart, I will celebrate, and I can safely rest.” Psalm 16:8-9 CEV

Jesus took time to rest and if He needed to it is incumbent that we follow His example.

“My child, use common sense and sound judgment! Always keep them in mind. They will help you to live a long and beautiful life. You will walk safely and never stumble; you will rest without a worry and sleep soundly.” Proverbs 3:21-24 CEV

As we travel home I pray that your day is filled with peace and rest.

This is the day God, our Father, has made. Rejoice, relax and be glad in it.

All Nature Praises

This morning is going to be brief but profound.

Yesterday Dave and I headed out for a weekend of relaxing in nature. Day one was marvelous and now we are getting ready for day two.

We saw a variety of animals in the forest and none of them were stressed out or overwhelmed with daily life.

So, this morning take a lesson from them.

“Everything that breathes, praise the Lord! Praise the Lord!” Psalm 150:6 ERV

Go out and praise the Lord!

Start with Praise – It’s the Spice of Life

Starting a new day. Starting a new month. Start with praise!

“But I will sing about your strength. I will rejoice in your love every morning. You have been my place of safety, the place I can run to when troubles come. 17 I will sing praises to you, my source of strength. You, God, are my place of safety. You are the God who loves me!” Psalm 59:16-17 ERV

Start your morning with a song – Sing praise unto God, sing praises! He will inhabit (live in) your praise and where God lives there is peace and victory!

“Father, thank you for Your great and amazing love. Thank you that my “cup runneth over”! It runs over with Your love for me. Thank you for filling my heart and my life with Your goodness. Thank you for making Yourself known to me, my children and my grandchildren. Thank you that You do all things well.”

I just feel like praising the Father today. He is so worthy of our praise.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.” Psalm 139:14

Start the day knowing that you are blessed and you have angels around you to protect and help you today.

“This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear (reverence) Him, and delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the man who trusts in Him” Psalm 34:6-8

See that the Lord is good – taste His goodness. It’s better than a pumpkin spice latte. The psalmist says it’s better than honey from the honeycomb; the Lord’s goodness is better than life.

Start the day with praise!

Love My Life

Yes, the house is quiet as it always is when I start my day but this morning there is added joy. Upstairs in the loft are our three youngest grandchildren.

The giggles that turned into full laughter as they ran outside and watched the rain after dinner, the hands covered in paint from the salt dough art projects, and the smiles on their faces as they ate Oreo lava cupcakes for dessert are the memories that Dave and I hope last them their lifetime.

We roll out the yoga mats and the sleeping bags, grab extra blankets and pillows and the loft becomes a shelter for sleeping children. Bible story, prayers said and up to watch King of Kings before falling to sleep. It just doesn’t get much better.

My morning prayer time has been for them. Covering them with safety and peace; love and good health; joy and the knowledge of how special they are and how deeply God loves them.

One by one they have asked for things and one by one they have come to give us hugs and kisses and to say “I love you Besta. I love you Pappy”. My heart is full and sometimes, so full, that my eyes overflow.

I can only imagine this is how the Father must feel when we stop mid-activity to look up and say, “I love you Father. Thank you, this is so much fun”.

“There are some who ask, ‘Who will be good to us?’ Let your kindness, Lord, shine brightly on us. You brought me more happiness than a rich harvest of grain and grapes. I can lie down and sleep soundly because you, Lord, will keep me safe.” Psalm 4:6-8 CEV

Your thoughts are of great worth to me, O God. How many there are! 18 If I could number them, there would be more than the sand. When I awake, I am still with You.” Psalm 139:17-18 NLV

Each morning when we wake, God is still here. He has planned wonderful things for our day. May we wake with anticipation – looking forward to the adventure of life God has for us! I love my life!

Love So Amazing

Wondering what word of encouragement I could give you this morning; what would support those going through tough times and what will bring hope and refreshing. Well, here it is – God’s love is more than enough!

“Praise the Lord, because he is good! His faithful love will last forever! 2 Everyone the Lord has saved should repeat that word of thanks. Praise him, all who have been rescued from the enemy. 3 He gathered his people together from many different countries. He brought them from east and west, north and south. 4 Some of them wandered in the dry desert. They were looking for a place to live, but they could not find a city. 5 They were hungry and thirsty and growing weak. 6 Then they called to the Lord for help, and he saved them from their troubles. 7 He led them straight to the city where they would live.

8 Thank the Lord for his faithful love and for the amazing things he does for people. 9 He satisfies those who are thirsty. He fills those who are hungry with good things.” Psalm 107:1-9 ERV

He is faithful, loving, kind and always attentative when we call! God’s love is amazing!

“My soul, praise the Lord! Every part of me, praise his holy name! 2 My soul, praise the Lord and never forget how kind he is! 3 He forgives all our sins and heals all our sicknesses. 4 He saves us from the grave, and he gives us love and compassion. 5 He gives us plenty of good things. He makes us young again, like an eagle that grows new feathers.

6 The Lord does what is fair. He brings justice to all who have been hurt by others. 7 He taught his laws to Moses. He let Israel see the powerful things he can do. 8 The Lord is kind and merciful. He is patient and full of love. 9 He does not always criticize. He does not stay angry with us forever. 10 We sinned against him, but he didn’t give us the punishment we deserved. 11 His love for his followers is as high above us as heaven is above the earth. 12 And he has taken our sins as far away from us as the east is from the west.” Psalm 103:1-12 ERV

Love so amazing, so divine!
